– Monica Garcia Montes
Most recently, Ms. Garcia served as a student attorney at the University of Maryland Gender Violence Clinic, where she represented a client in a third-party custody case. Prior to this, she served as a Legal Intern in the Special Victims Division of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, where she assisted attorneys with trial preparation in domestic violence and child abuse matters. She also served as a Judicial Intern to The Honorable Judge Aileen E. Oliver in the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County.
Additional internships included working as a Legal Intern at the Public Safety Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. There, she assisted in drafting a memorandum regarding felony murder charges and researched Sixth Amendment issues.
A native Spanish speaker, Ms. Garcia graduated cum laude from The American University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government, as well as a minor in Justice. She received her Juris Doctor degree from The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. While pursuing her law degree, she was the Senior Online Articles Editor for Maryland Law Review, editing manuscripts and participating in the editorial review process for print and online publications. She was also selected to serve as a Legal Writing Teaching Fellow and was a recipient of the CALI Award for academic excellence for coursework in Family Law and the Gender Violence Clinic.
